Description
The piece is inspired by the Inca legend of the Eclipse. In this art piece, the number three is the protagonist: three parts, three techniques, and three-color ranges. The rectangular piece —wove in bright yellow fiber nature called “Cabuya”— is the formal and conceptual support because this material is the sun. The overlapping black part refers to the moon, the night, and the stars; this part contributes to delicacy, femininity, and melancholy of the art piece. Fringes are essential: the mix of firm textures of leather in contrast to the soft wool with fine details of tulle with golden details accentuates the contrast between both sections of the piece. To complete the trio, the artist added the circular work representing the eclipse —a sublime meeting of pure love between the moon and the sun. As inspiration for this piece, Marcela took the Inca myth of the eclipse, whose romantic meaning conflicts with other negative interpretations of the natural phenomenon in other cultures.
